Deakin Kits

Deakin Kit Collection at YRL

Yellowhead Regional Library (YRL) has accepted a donation of a selection of titles from Dr. Andrea Deakin’s personal collection. The titles donated have been sorted into nine different collections and cover a range of themes and subjects.

The nine Deakin Kits themes include:

  • All About Authors
  • Animals
  • Christmas
  • Fairy Tales and Folktales 1
  • Fairy Tales and Folktales 2
  • Juvenile Fiction 1 and 2
  • Juvenile Non-Fiction
  • Poetry

Within the kits, you will find excellent books that have been chosen by Dr. Deakin herself. The entirety of a kit or individual texts within can be checked out by all YRL members. Many of the kits also include notes that Dr. Deakin hand wrote. Many of these contain anecdotes about specific titles.

Borrowing Procedures

Kits may be borrowed for up to one month by school or public libraries. There is a limit of one kit per library per month. Due to popularity, they may be requested up to six months in advance.

  1. To request a kit, contact kits@yrl.ab.ca with the name of the kit and specific date and/or timelines, or place a request in our Kit Booking Request Form. We will do our best to accommodate requests.
  2. When you receive a kit, review the content sheet to ensure everything is inside. Patrons can borrow kit materials. Kit contents can be displayed or used in programs.
  3. When it's time to return a kit:
  • Be sure to return it when it is due. Late returns result in delays for other libraries.
  • If some items are still out to patrons, please return what you can. Checked out books will go in transit to YRL upon return.
  • Report any damage to books immediately to YRL.
